Robinson Explains Hit on Maclin

It was a year ago when arguably the scariest moment in recent Falcons history occurred. Cornerback Dunta Robinson and Eagles wide receiver DeSean Jackson collided on a head-to-head hit that crumpled both players in a heap on the field and took them out for the rest of the game.

Unfortunately, we saw an eerie quasi-replay of the hit in last night’s game when Robinson and Eagles wide receiver Jeremy Maclin met in the middle of the field.

Robinson, this time, walked away from the hit but Maclin needed to be helped off the field.

“The main goal with me, I didn’t want it to end up like last year,” Robinson said Monday. “I didn’t want him to be stretched out and I didn’t want to be stretched out, so I didn’t run and put full force into him. I kinda padded it a little bit and it felt like I just leaned into him. I wanted to make sure we both got up. What happened last year was a scary situation. I didn’t want that to happen to me or him.”

Robinson said just before the collision, he thought about how he could make sure the two helmets didn’t hit one another and made an adjustment. He said he let up a bit before the impact, but the hit was still jarring.

“I don’t go out there and maliciously try to take receivers out of the game,” Robinson said. “I’ve played this way since I was a child.”
