The NFL season will officially begin on a Wednesday. Yes, a Wednesday.
As not to interfere with President Barack Obama’s speech to the Democratic National Convention on Sept. 6, which is a Thursday, the league decided to move the season kickoff to the day before — Wednesday, Sept. 5.
The NFL Kickoff 2012 will feature the Super Bowl champion New York Giants hosting a game at MetLife Stadium. No word yet on who that opponent will be, but since the Falcons are scheduled to face the Giants at the Georgia Dome in 2012, it won’t be them.
Full team schedules for 2012 will be announced in the spring.
