It was never a secret during his playing days that Coy Wire was community-minded, so it should come as no surprise in retirement that he’s devoting his time and energy to something that could have a fantastic outcome.

One of four Atlanta celebrities involved in Verizon’s 4G For Charity contest, Wire is amassing votes from fans to earn $4,000 for the Make-a-Wish Foundation.

“Make-A-Wish gives hope, strength and joy by granting the wishes of children with terminal or life-threatening conditions,” Wire said on his contest profile page. “Far too many of these kids are waiting to have their wish granted. Some of them want to be able to experience Disney World with their parents; others just want their own puppy. Whatever their wish may be, these kids need our support to give them a bit of hope and joy.”

Wire is up against designer Jada Loveless, radio DJ Frank Ski and chef Kevin Rathbun.
