Monday night’s 27-21 win over the Denver Broncos was a long one — three hours, 27 minutes — and physical, too. Head coach Mike Smith said during his Tuesday press conference with the Atlanta media that the length and physicality of the game took its toll on the team.

Namely, cornerback Chris Owens, who Smith said is in the league’s concussion protocol this week. Smith said he wouldn’t go so far as to rule Owens out for Sunday’s game at San Diego, but acknowledged the short week doesn’t help much to get him healthy.

Smith also said to expect plenty of names on this week’s Piedmont Healthcare Injury Report with lots of limited participation players. Smith explained that the reason for that isn’t major injury, but just a way to get players a lot of rest in the coming week.

The Falcons, who were off on Tuesday, will practice Wednesday, Thursday and Friday morning before flying to San Diego on Friday afternoon.
