We prove nicknames around here

We’re now six weeks into the season. It hasn’t been easy. At times, it certainly hasn’t been pretty.

But there’s no denying one fact about the 2012 Falcons at this point: They’re the only remaining undefeated team in the league.

The Falcons were able to edge past the Oakland Raiders 23-20 on Sunday after some late-game heroics by Asante Samuel and Matt Bryant. Later Sunday evening, the Houston Texans — the only other team in the league that was unbeaten coming into Week 6 — faced the Green Bay Packers on Sunday Night Football.

The Packers handed the Texans their first loss of the year, a 42-24 beating that put the Falcons in an elite class by themselves.

The Falcons will remain the lone unbeaten at least for one more week as they start the bye today. They’ll return next week to travel to Philadelphia to take on the Eagles on Oct. 28.
