Falcons fans are holding their breath, waiting to hear determination on whether or not linebacker Sean Weatherspoon will play in Sunday’s game against Dallas. They won’t have to wait much longer.

Head coach Mike Smith said Weatherspoon’s status for Sunday will be decided Thursday after another 24 hours or so to work and heal up. Smith said Weatherspoon was held in the training room during practice Wednesday — and was designated on the Piedmont Healthcare Injury Report as “Did Not Participate” — and is working as hard as he can to be ready to go for Sunday night.

“We want to get him out, see if they can get out here and do something tomorrow,” Smith said. “Sean is a great patient. Just like he’s a great football player, he’s a great patient. If (the training room is) open, he’s there getting treatment… I’ve been very impressed with how those guys (Weatherspoon, Kevin Cone and Garrett Reynolds) have attacked their rehabilitation.”

Weatherspoon left Sunday’s 30-17 win over the Eagles in the second half with an ankle injury.
