Linebacker Sean Weatherspoon and wide receiver Julio Jones were held out of practice Wednesday as both are recovering from injuries.

Weatherspoon, who has missed the past two games with an ankle injury, made progress Wednesday as he began running with the athletic performance group.

“He moved around. We’ll ramp that up (Thursday) and see how he feels in the morning,” Smith said. “Then, we’ll determine what his workload will be for (Thursday).”

Asked if the game was tomorrow, would Weatherspoon be ready, Smith said he couldn’t speak to that, but said that Weatherspoon had a good workout Wednesday. Weatherspoon told Smith he was excited about what he got accomplished with the athletic performance team today.

Smith said he wanted to keep Jones off his feet today and that he’ll be evaluated Thursday to see how much work he can do. Jones left Sunday’s game with a leg injury but returned in the second half and played the rest of the game.

Jones is listed on today’s Piedmont Healthcare Injury Report as having an ankle injury.
