DT Peria Jerry could be ready to go this weekend against Carolina (if he’s not still being held).

The Falcons had somewhat of a mini-bye week after playing Thursday night, meaning head coach Mike Smith had nine days until the Falcons’ next game to get his players healthy and ready for the final quarter of the season.

He started by giving them four days off before the team returned to practice Tuesday. The extra rest seemed to help at least one player as Smith expects DT Peria Jerry — who has been battling a thigh injury — back very soon.

“Peria worked out with our athletic performance group,” Smith said Tuesday. “We anticipate Peria Jerry will be practicing tomorrow.”

That’s big news for a defensive line that has been doing very well in recent weeks stopping the run.

Asante Samuel, who played three plays against the Saints before leaving the game with a shoulder injury that has been bothering him, spent Tuesday’s practice inside the training room.

Smith is more hopeful than anticipatory as far as Samuel’s status goes.

“Asante on a short week wasn’t able to finish the game,” Smith said. “We’ve got nine days in between games now, so hopefully, he’ll be feeling better as we get in our normal practice week on Wednesday.”
