Sunday will be the first time the Falcons have faced Seattle’s rookie quarterback Russell Wilson, but there’s some familiarity for at least one player on the Falcons roster.

Rookie offensive guard Peter Konz spent half a season snapping for Wilson as his center at Wisconsin last year while the two played for the Badgers, and he got to know a little about the Seattle signal-caller in their short time together.

“He’s a diligent worker, and that’s how he got the spot in Seattle,” Konz said this week. Rookie fullback Bradie Ewing, on injured reserve for the Falcons, also played with Wilson at Wisconsin. “Without any doubt in my mind, he’s been watching film and I know he believes that if he’s ready, prepared, that through practice and hours of film that he’ll be ready to come in here so, you know he’s going to make good decisions, smart decisions. We’ve just gotta be able to stop their playmakers.”

Konz said the biggest attribute Wilson brings to a team is his leadership ability, saying that he was very good in that department as well as decision-making on the field.

Konz said he considers Wilson a friend, as well as Seattle cornerback Chris Maragos and John Moffitt — both of whom went to Wisconsin — but that he hasn’t talked to nor does he plan to speak to any of them this week.

“I don’t really talk to my friends,” said Konz, known for his quirky outlook and wit. “It’s strictly business this week.”
