Offensive lineman Phillipkeith Manley was a relative unknown last year when he came to the Falcons as an undrafted free agent out of Toledo, but as last year’s camp wore on, it became obvious that Manley would be the kind of player the team would want to keep around.

He ended up on the 53-man roster and spent some time on the practice squad in 2012. Back this year at 6-foot-5, 309 pounds, the Falcons are focused on cross-training the young lineman, and offensive line coach Pat Hill spoke about that process with the media earlier today.

“I think one of the keys to this is going to be who have the more position-flexibility. That’s why they’re learning all the different positions,” Hill said. “We’ve even got Phillip playing out at left tackle right now. He got some reps the other day at left tackle. He might get some reps at left tackle against the Ravens.

“Right now, there are a lot of things going on. These guys have got to be sharp. The guy that can help you at more positions and do more things a lot of times will have an advantage.”
