The Falcons will be without veteran starting cornerback Asante Samuel for today’s season opener against the Saints in New Orleans.

The tenth-year pro was limited in practice all week with a thigh injury, and his chances for playing today ended 90 minutes before kickoff when he was listed among the Falcons inactives for the game. Rookie cornerback Desmond Trufant will get the start in his place. Robert McClain will start at the other cornerback position for the Falcons.

On the offensive side of the ball, the Falcons will have both their starting wide receivers in the lineup against New Orleans. Roddy White, who has been nursing an ankle injury suffered in the preseason, was cleared to start today alongside fellow wideout Julio Jones.
